If you read part 1, part 2, and part 3 of this mini series, you’ll know the first reason you aren’t getting results in the gym is because you aren’t progressing your workouts, the second is that you aren’t tracking your progress, and the third is that your nutrition isn’t dialed in.

Reason number 4 that you aren’t getting results is that you’re likely not training in the correct way.

If you’re quite new to the gym, a natural reaction is to just hop on the treadmill and spend your whole 45 minute gym session doing a brisk walk with a slight incline. It’s safe, easy and comfortable. You can’t really go wrong with it so you leave the gym feeling happy and like you’ve achieved something.

That’s all great, but the problem is it’s probably not going to get you to where you want to be.

Every goal requires a different approach, whether it’s weight loss, muscle gain, general fitness or something else. Before
you start in the gym, find out how to train to reach your goal. There are lots of free resources out there. If you find this overwhelming, ask someone in the know. For example, don’t be afraid to ask me for some advice.

Need help with your your fitness or nutrition goals? Take a look at reason number number 5 of why you aren’t getting the results you want. which you can read here!

About the Author Nico Valla

I'm a parent, teacher, coach — and I’ve lived the burnout spiral myself.

In 2019 stress landed hard with chest pain, a scary ECG moment and the realisation that something had to change. I rebuilt my health through sleep, stress regulation, nutrition and sensible movement — not pills.

Since then I’ve coached hundreds of people to do the same. This programme bundles the tools I wish I’d had sooner so you can get back to feeling human again.
