How To Train For A Sprint Triathlon – Project Tri Style!
This is a sprint triathlon training plan born from frustration. Frustrated with never having enough time to train and having to squeeze long training sessions into my already busy lifestyle I thought that there must be a better way to train that is more effective and saves time. This became particularly apparent when I began training for Ironman triathlon.
So I developed this five-step triathlon training plan that has been developed and tested by myself and my clients. This method works well for real-world triathletes who have to fit their triathlon training into a hectic lifestyle.
Each of the five steps contains elements to get you to your best, and this is delivered to you over 6, 12, 26, 20 weeks. One of the great things about this method is that it has approximately half the number of hours of a traditional training plan – and it’s more effective because this comprehensive and effective tri training method is designed specifically for the busy athlete gets the most out of realistic commitments, and does not treat you like an elite, which is what some plans do.
How To Train For A Sprint Triathlon
If you have been struggling with squeezing in your tri training and want improved results then I recommend having a go at the following.
- Adopt a speed then distance approach keeps volume low as possible for as long as possible keeping you injury free, fresh, motivated, and fully recovered for each session.
- Focus on intensity not volume with a recovery based training plan.
- Keep your nutritional plan simple, eat ‘real’ food and focus on nutrients that encompasses health, recovery and sports nutrition.
- Consider your mindset and develop to achieve more and reach your potential. Reward success! Taking time to plan your goals, consider your strengths and weaknesses and ‘flip’ your limiting beliefs upside down with a positive alternative each time a negative thought enters your head.
- Track and assessing progress to see real and tangible fitness gains. Keep a log for motivation and to see your goal through.
Team Member Ali Did – See What She Has To Say
I have just achieved my goal, which was to complete my first triathlon! I felt really scared when I first entered it, but now I have much more confidence!“I was 1hour quicker than expected on the bike and my cycling has improved massively!”When I started training with Nico I could not swim a single length of the pool but now I can complete the whole swim easily! I used to feel that running was my weakest discipline but I have seen it improving. I can run further and faster than before and on the bike I can keep up with others!
