This video is a bit of fun. I made it whilst out walking on a really nice Sunday with my wife and son.

In it I illustrate that negative calorie foods are a myth, and how to create a negative calorie balance by foraging for calorie sparse foods, that as it happens, are nutrient dense and tasty!

About the Author Nico Valla

I'm a parent, teacher, coach — and I’ve lived the burnout spiral myself.

In 2019 stress landed hard with chest pain, a scary ECG moment and the realisation that something had to change. I rebuilt my health through sleep, stress regulation, nutrition and sensible movement — not pills.

Since then I’ve coached hundreds of people to do the same. This programme bundles the tools I wish I’d had sooner so you can get back to feeling human again.

  • Good fun video, informative with lot of common sense. How many calories in a pound of blackberries? Aren’t they full of sugar like any fruit when they are ripe?

  • Thanks for the question. Yes fruit and berries may contain sugar, but this shouldn’t be used as an excuse not to eat them. They also contain fibre and lots of other nutrients – they are a nutrient dense and calorie sparse food.

In addition, for people who are trying to create a calorie deficit in order to lose body fat, I recommend eating vegetables and fruit in a ratio of 5:1 vegetables:fruit.
